Euro-Atlantic integration has been the dominant policy approach to achieving long term stabilization and development of Western Balkans region and in overall this policy has been effective in both aspects: Euro-Atlantic integration and regional cooperation.
However, despite the progress made, the initial goals of regional cooperation – good neighbor relations, reconciliation, and mutual understanding – continue to be encountered by different challenges. Against this setting, the Western Balkans Security Barometer supported by National Endowment for Democracy has collected data measuring attitudes and opinions of the Albanian citizens regarding the EU integration and regional security. The event held at the Mediterranean University of Albania on 21/04/2022 aimed to provide a platform for discussion of the findings in the light also of the latest security developments in Ukraine. The conference came as a result of the agreement signed between the Mediterranean University of Albania (MUA) and the Center for the Study of Democracy and Governance (CSDG) a couple of days ago.
On behalf of the parties, the agreement was signed by Prof. Dr. Adrian Civici, the Rector of MUA and Mr. Arjan Dyrmishi, the director of the center. This cooperation comes in the framework of the implementation of the Erasmus + Project “University to Society Innomediaries in Albania: Co-production of knowledge and research that matters (U-SIA)”, in which MUA is the leader. Implementation of one of the project work packages (WP6), whose focus is the cooperation of Universities with public actors, such as local and central government institutions and civil society, will bring together these actors, academic staff and students in finalizing a policy paper or concrete policy improvements suggestions. Through this collaboration, MUA and CSDG aim to undertake and support initiatives of mutual interest, including other actors from academia and civil society. In addition, through the organization and development of various activities, it is intended to promote projects initiated by students, in order to increase their involvement and engagement.
