On 04/04/2022, in the premises of the Mediterranean University of Albania (MUA), it was signed the cooperation agreement between MUA and The Coordination Center for Countering Violent Extremism – Albania (CVE Center), a Center at the office of the
Prime Minister of the Republic of Albania. On behalf of the parties, the agreement was signed by Prof. Dr. Adrian Civici, the Rector of MUA and Mrs. Lejdi Dervishi, the director of the center.
The purpose of this agreement is to enable cooperation between the two institutions, in the framework of the USIA Project for Institutional Cooperation of Universities and Public Institutions (specifically WP6- Piloting University to Policy Cooperation through
Policy Labs). The two sub-programmes of the WP6 are: Policy Labs where students work on project-based learning and solve policy issues and Policy Challenge Fund whereby researchers are selected by public institutions to co-produce policy solutions.
Hence, the aim of the agreement is to determine the areas and ways of cooperation between the two institutions in order to operate effectively against challenges and requirements as well as in order to achieve the goals and objectives described in the
National Strategy “For the Fight against Violent Extremism and Action Plan”. Mrs. Dervishi and Prof. Dr. Civici in their speech underlined the opportunities and expertise that higher education institutions have in cooperation and contribution to the implementation of measures and activities aimed at recognizing, raising awareness and continuously improving skills to prevent and respond to the
phenomena and forms of violent radicalization and extremism.
Mrs. Dervishi and the staff of CVE Center had a very interesting conversation with the students of MUA as well. The staff informed the students about the findings and the activities of the CVE Center, the identification of individuals and the factors that promote radicalism and violent extremism in the community. This activity marked the beginning of a collaboration that will continue with the
drafting of a concrete plan, open lectures, capacity building for students, joint scientific conferences on the forms and factors that promote radicalism and extremism among young people and individuals in society.
